Rule Clarification
Official Notice: Sail Panel, Hood, Wing, and Side Panel Specifications
Effective: February 16, 2026
Purpose To ensure driver safety and to prevent hazards from lips, added materials, sharp edges, or other protrusions that could injure drivers in the event of a crash.
Rules
Sail panels
Standard side panels (e.g., Ske, QRC) are permitted as in the past.
Panels may not extend more than 3 inches past the rear cage supports.
No added lips or protrusions that extend outward from the kart to the sides.
No lips, extensions, or protrusions that extend outward from the kart.
Edges must be smooth and flush with the panel surface; no sharp edges.
Hoods
Hood lips or extensions that extend outward more than 1.5 inches are not allowed.
This restriction does not apply to nose cones or hood scoops; those remain separate standards.
Wings
No attachments on side panels that extend outward from the kart.
Main panel supports are acceptable.
Center wing rear lips are permitted.
No added extensions or lips on the sides of the wings.
Side pods
Side pods are not allowed to cover the tops of the nerf bars; this area must remain open.
Officials’ discretion
All wings and bodies are subject to officials’ discretion and could be grounds for disqualification if they do not meet safety and standardization requirements.
